Your pet’s health comes first.

Your pet is an important part of your family, and when he or she is ill, you want the best medical care available.

Our Services

The veterinarian and staff at our clinic are ready to provide your pet with cutting-edge veterinary medical care. From wellness exams and vaccines to advanced diagnostics and complex surgical procedures, your dog, cat or ferret will receive high-quality care at our hospital. Even better, Russell Lake Animal Hospital is proud to offer veterinary appointments in English and French.

Behavioural Medicine

Petsecure Pet Health Insurance pre-authorizes our certified trainer, and her behaviour modification training services and counselling are covered under most policies. Your pet’s behaviour affects every interaction you have with him or her daily. Behaviour dictates everything from mealtime to exercise time to downtime (such as relaxing on the couch with other family members). When a pet has a behaviour problem, the consequences are far-reaching. Behaviour problems threaten the bond you have with your pet by damaging the loving relationship that should exist between you. A serious behaviour problem can lead to euthanasia or surrendering a pet to a shelter in extreme situations.

Pets can have various behavioural issues, from simple housetraining problems to severe anxiety and aggression issues. We are well-qualified and experienced in diagnosing and addressing behaviour problems with an approach that combines skills from veterinary clinical medicine, behavioural medicine, and pet training. Our goals are to help pets and their owners live together comfortably/safely and to help restore the bond between pets and their families.

Dealing with behaviour problems can be frustrating for pet owners. Some pet owners may even blame themselves because their pet seems to have an emotional issue. Although behaviour problems can result from emotional trauma or physical mistreatment, in many cases, the problem can arise from simple misunderstandings or learned associations that were inadvertently established during training. Also, several medical conditions can manifest in ways that mimic behaviour problems. Scheduling an evaluation with a professional skilled in diagnosing and managing behavioural issues in pets is the first step on the road to resolving the problem.

Fully Stocked Pharmacy

We are here to make sure your pet always has the things they need to live a happy and healthy life. Our pharmacy is stocked full of the products you need. We can ship your prescriptions directly to your home, or you can pick them up at the hospital.

Microchipping

Your pet needs a reliable form of identification that can’t get lost, stolen, or damaged. A microchip is a safe, simple form of identification that can significantly increase the chance that your pet will return safely. A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice and is placed underneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. Microchip implantation takes only a few minutes and is very safe. Each microchip is unique and carries vital information about your pet—including your name, address, and contact information.

Pain Management

Recognizing and alleviating pain in our patients is at the very heart of quality, compassionate patient care. We don’t take pain management for granted and will employ all our skills to help ensure your pet’s comfort, well-being, and full recovery.

Spays and Neuters

Spay and neuter surgeries are some of the most frequently performed procedures in veterinary medicine. Not only do they prevent unwanted pregnancies, but they also avoid several problematic health and behavioural issues.

Puppy and Kitten Care

Congratulations on getting your new puppy or kitten. We hope that they provide many years of fun, friendship, loyalty, and love. The veterinarians and staff at Russell Lake Animal Hospital are here to help you as you start on your relationship with your newest family member. The most important gift that we can give you is the knowledge that will make you better able to care for your pet at any stage of its life.

Radiology (X-Rays)

We have digital radiography services to take high-quality radiographs (X-rays). Our state-of-the-art equipment limits the amount of X-ray exposure for your pet while also saving time while taking radiographs. It also allows us to electronically transfer images to a board-certified radiologist for interpretation (provided for all radiographs). It also makes for easy transfer of images to a specialist or emergency hospital, if necessary.

Surgery

In our continuing efforts to offer the highest quality veterinary medicine, we are pleased to provide a wide range of surgical services for our patients. From routine surgical procedures, such as spaying and neutering, to more complex surgeries, we look forward to the opportunity to care for your pet’s surgical needs.

Wellness Exams

Your pet can benefit greatly from regular wellness examinations or checkups. Wellness examinations provide an excellent opportunity for us to conduct a thorough physical examination and develop a health profile for your pet. This information will help us identify medical problems and any other issues that can affect your pet’s health and quality of life.

Dental Care

Maintaining strong dental health and a regular cleaning program not only assures that your pet’s mouth and teeth will remain in excellent condition, but will also help to prevent infections that can spread through the bloodstream to affect major organs such as your pet’s liver, kidneys, and heart. It is our team’s goal to help you identify, stop, and prevent the pain and systemic side effects from oral conditions for your pet.

Senior Care

Nutritional needs, exercise habits, and many aspects of your pet’s daily routine can change as your pet ages. But how can you tell the difference between “normal” ageing and a medical problem? As in humans, some health issues that affect older pets can begin with very subtle changes that may go unnoticed until the problem has become serious. Regular wellness visits are important for every stage of your pet’s life, so don’t forget to keep your senior pet’s scheduled wellness appointments. The best way to help protect your pet as he or she ages is to understand the ageing process in pets. We understand that process and can help you help your pet. Even if your senior pet is already being treated for a medical condition, treatment recommendations can change as a condition progresses. Sometimes medication dosages need to be adjusted, or medication may need to be changed. Routine wellness blood work and other routine diagnostic testing are important for senior pets because these tests allow us to evaluate how your pet’s health is either responding to current management strategies or changing with age.

Your senior pet’s wellness examination is also your chance to have us address any of your questions or concerns about your pet. We welcome your questions and encourage you to be involved in decisions regarding your pet’s health care.

Older pets make wonderful companions, and thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, pets are living longer than ever! You are an important ally in your senior pet’s health care. We are here to help ensure that your pet is safe and happy throughout the “golden years.”

Vaccinations

Vaccines help pets live longer, healthier lives. Protecting your pet is our primary goal, so developing an appropriate vaccine schedule for your pet is important to us. Our doctors and other staff members are well-educated about veterinary vaccines, and our goal is to give you the best advice for keeping your pet healthy.

Emergency and Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and personnel onsite seven days a week trained and equipped to handle any urgent need your pet has. Emergencies can be things such a snail bait poisoning, getting hit by a car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment, do not hesitate to call us immediately. Please call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency and prepare for your arrival. After hours emergency care is provided by Metro Animal Emergency Clinic.
